Wait, but what about…?

You’re probably noticing some major omissions. Classics, like Friday, Dazed and Confused, Reefer Madness, and Harold and Kumar movies. They are quintessential stoner movies, yes, but I just didn’t enjoy them all that much, and so I shan’t be recommending them. In fact, if there’s a movie you were expecting to see, but didn’t, it’s probably either because I don’t categorize it as a stoner movie per se, or because it’s just not my jam.

Honorable Mentions:

  • Your Highness — possibly the stupidest stoner movie I have ever watched. There’s a fine line between being high enough to process the stupidity and just greening out.
  • Ted — quite popular on stoner movie lists, so I’d be remiss not to mention it. But it felt like a bunch of rejected Family Guy material scooped off the cutting room floor and shoved, almost angrily, into a Teddy Ruxpin. Not for me, thanks, but you do you!
  • Anything Wes Anderson — definitely not intended as stoner movies, but all the more sweeter when treated as such.
  • The Disaster Artist — again, certainly not a stoner movie, but the sheer absurdity lends itself well to the concept nonetheless.
  • Hackers — it’s oozing with early 90’s nostalgia and counterculture vibes, so it works.
  • The Interview — another Seth Rogen/James Franco hit movie, but, I’m only bringing it up because it’s so popular among other people. I think Pineapple Express is way better.
  • Anchorman, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, Step Brothers, Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story , Hot Tub Time Machine, Zoolander, Tropic Thunder— hilarious movies, for sure. Stupid, absolutely. Stoner movies… I dunno?

Final Thoughts

I don’t honestly know why I wrote this up. Maybe it’s just in my head and I needed to get it out. I’ll probably be going back occasionally and editing this for the rest of my life, as my tastes evolve and new movies come out.

I support the full legalization of marijuana and cannabis products in the United States, and the complete decriminalization of all drug use. It is my personal belief that addiction should be treated as a public health issue rather than a criminal one.

Party responsibly, and have a happy 420.
